Single tooth implants in Pontefract

Dental implants at Ropergate Dental Care & Implant Studio

Dental Implant Enquiries: 01977 602206

Our first-class single tooth implant treatment is a fantastic replacement for missing teeth. They are almost indistinguishable from natural teeth and can help patients feel more confident with their smiles and enjoy the foods they want to eat. Over time, teeth can move into the gap left behind by a missing tooth – and the bone that surrounds the lost root can start to deteriorate. With a single dental implant, the artificial tooth root helps to preserve the bone, but won’t affect the neighbouring teeth. A crown is then fitted, which is colour-matched to your existing teeth. Dr James Harrison, our dental implant expert, has successfully placed over 700 tooth implants, giving patients the ability to smile with confidence and enjoy the foods they love once more.

  • Replace single missing teeth
  • Look, feel and act like natural teeth
  • Restore function, allowing you to smile, chew and eat with confidence again
  • Can help reduce wear on neighbouring teeth
  • Long-lasting and cost-effective

Frequently asked questions

About dental implants here at Ropergate Dental Care & Implant Studio

  1. How does a single dental implant work?

A single implant replaces one tooth from the root up, in three parts:

    • a small titanium post placed in the jawbone, which acts as the new root
    • a connector called an abutment, which sits just above the gum
    • a crown made to match your natural teeth

Once the post has fused with the bone, the crown is fixed on top. It doesn’t come out, and nothing is attached to the teeth either side.

  2. What happens if I leave the gap?

Over time, the teeth on either side tend to lean into the space. The tooth opposite can also grow down (or up) into it. This can change your bite and create awkward spots where food gets trapped. The bone where the root used to be also starts to shrink, because it’s no longer being used. The longer a gap is left, the more likely you’ll need a bone graft before an implant can go in.

  3. How long does a single implant take from start to finish?

Usually 3 to 6 months. The implant goes in during one appointment. It then needs time to fuse with the bone before your permanent crown can be fitted. Lower teeth often heal a little faster than upper teeth. An extraction, bone graft or gum treatment beforehand will add to that time.

  4. Does having an implant hurt?

Placing one implant is usually quicker and less uncomfortable than people expect. The area is fully numbed with local anaesthetic, and the procedure typically takes around an hour. You’ll feel pressure but not pain. Afterwards, the area may be tender and a little swollen for a few days. Most people manage this with paracetamol or ibuprofen and get on with their normal routine the next day. If you’re anxious, ask us about sedation.

  5. Will my implant crown match my other teeth?

Yes. The crown is made to match the colour, shape and size of your natural teeth. One tip: a crown won’t change colour, so if you’d like whiter teeth, have them whitened before we match the crown. We can plan that into your treatment.

  6. Am I suitable for a single implant?

Most adults with a missing tooth are. What we check is:

    • enough healthy bone to hold the implant
    • healthy gums
    • general health that supports healing

Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and untreated gum disease raise the risk of an implant failing, so we’ll talk through anything like that openly. Implants are for adults whose jaws have finished growing. For younger patients, we’ll recommend a temporary option until then.

  7. How long does a single implant last, and how do I look after it?

Treat it like a natural tooth. Brush twice a day, and floss or use an interdental brush around it daily. See our hygienist at least twice a year so the gum around the implant stays healthy. Looked after this way, the implant itself can last for decades. The crown may eventually need replacing through normal wear. Your implant is covered by our 5-year guarantee, provided you keep up those hygiene visits and follow your maintenance plan.
