  1. How do I book my appointment?

  2. What counts as a dental emergency?

    Call us for an urgent appointment if you have:

    • toothache that painkillers aren’t controlling, or that’s keeping you awake
    • swelling in your gum, face or jaw
    • a knocked-out or badly broken tooth
    • bleeding that won’t stop after an extraction
    • a lost filling, crown or veneer, or a broken denture or brace that’s causing pain

    If you’re unsure, ring us, and we’ll help you decide how urgent it is.

  3. When should I go to A&E instead of the dentist?

    Go to A&E or call 999 if you have:

    • serious injuries to your face or jaw
    • heavy bleeding from your mouth that won’t stop
    • severe swelling of your mouth, lips, throat or neck, with difficulty breathing or opening one or both eyes
    • any head or face injury that has made you lose consciousness, vomit or have double vision

    Don’t drive yourself. For everything else, a dentist is the right place, as most hospitals don’t have an on-call dental service.

  4. What happens during my treatment?

    The priority is getting you out of pain. We’ll examine the problem tooth, usually take an X-ray and work out what’s causing it. Often we can treat it there and then, for example by draining an abscess, placing a temporary filling, smoothing a broken edge or re-cementing a crown. If you need longer treatment, like a root canal or a new crown, we’ll stabilise the tooth and book you back in for the permanent fix.

  5. How much does treatment cost?

    For patients registered at our practice, costs fall under the NHS banding. For those who are not registered, the emergency fee is £100 for the initial examination and advice, which is payable at the point of booking. Your dentist in Pontefract will then provide a written treatment plan and explain all the options and pricing with to find the best solution for you.
