One of Pontefract’s Leading Dental Implant Practices

Fixed teeth in a day with Ropergate Dental Care & Implant Studio

Using the all-on-4 dental implant treatment technique

Dental Implant Enquiries: 01977 602206

Our teeth in a day dental implant treatment in Pontefract can transform your life – as well as your smile – and is ideal for those with missing teeth, who wear dentures and who avoid certain foods. On the same day that the teeth are removed, dental implants are placed and you are fitted with a fantastic set of fixed natural-looking temporary teeth. This means you’re never left with a gap at any stage and won’t need to wear dentures while the healing takes place. After three months, the temporary teeth are replaced with permanent ones and your new teeth will not only feel fantastic, they will look fabulous as well. The typical process for replacing all missing teeth – whether top or bottom – is to fix 6-10 dental implants. But using the all-on-4 system, fewer implants are needed. The process involves placing 2 implants at the front of the jaw and 2 implants at the back of the jaw, which are braced together by a fixed bridge that will stay in place permanently.

Implant-retained dentures

Tooth implants in Pontefract are secure and comfortable. We can even help secure dentures in place using a press-stud style attachment, called a locator abutment. We’ll need to place 2 or 4 implants in the lower jaw and a minimum of 4 implants in the upper jaw. The press-stud attachments allow the dentures to be pressed into the mouth and clicked into place. You may still feel some slight movement, but it’s a world away from wearing a complete denture in the traditional way. Secure and stable, it’s a great way to discover a new-found confidence if you struggle with wearing dentures. Interested in dental implants at Ropergate Dental Care & Implant Studio in Pontefract? Frequently asked questions

About dental implants here at Ropergate Dental Care & Implant Studio

  1. What is the All-on-4 technique?

All-on-4 replaces a full arch of teeth, upper or lower, using four dental implants. Two go into the front of the jaw. Two go in further back, set at an angle so they reach more of the bone you already have. A fixed bridge of teeth is then secured across all four. A traditional full arch needs six to ten implants, so four means less surgery and a quicker recovery. The angled back implants also mean many people who’ve been told they lack the bone for implants can still have fixed teeth, often without a bone graft.

  2. Can I really get new teeth in one day?

Yes, for most suitable patients. Any remaining teeth are removed, your implants are placed, and a fixed set of temporary teeth is attached, all in the same visit. You never go through a stage with gaps or a loose denture. What decides it on the day is how firmly the implants hold in the bone. Dr Harrison checks this during surgery and will talk you through the options if an implant needs longer to settle. Your scans at consultation give a good idea beforehand whether same-day teeth are realistic for you.

  3. How long does the whole treatment take?

Around three to four months from surgery to your permanent teeth, plus planning time beforehand.

    • Consultation and scans: we assess your gums, jaw and bone and plan where each implant will go.
    • Surgery day: extractions, implants and fixed temporary teeth in one visit.
    • Healing (about 3 months): the implants fuse with your jawbone while you wear the temporaries.
    • Permanent teeth: impressions are taken, and your final bridge is made and fitted.

Gum disease, bone grafting or slower healing can add time. We’ll tell you at the planning stage if any of these apply to you.

  4. Does full-arch implant treatment hurt?

The surgery is done under local anaesthetic, so you’ll feel pressure but not pain. If you’re nervous, we offer dental sedation so you stay relaxed throughout. Expect swelling and tenderness for a few days afterwards. Most people manage this with over-the-counter painkillers and are back to normal routines shortly.

  5. What's the difference between fixed teeth and implant-retained dentures?

Both use implants, but they feel different day-to-day.

    • Fixed teeth (All-on-4): the bridge is screwed onto the implants, and only your dentist can remove it. You brush it in your mouth like natural teeth, and there’s no plate covering the roof of your mouth.
    • Implant-retained dentures: your denture clicks onto press-stud attachments called locator abutments. These sit on 2 or 4 implants in the lower jaw, or at least 4 in the upper jaw. You take the denture out each night to clean it. You may notice slight movement, but far less than with a normal denture, and it usually costs less than a fixed bridge.

The right choice depends on your bone, your budget and whether you want teeth that never come out. We’ll go through both at your consultation.

  6. How do I look after full-arch implants?

Brush twice a day, as you would natural teeth. Clean under the bridge with an interdental brush or water flosser, because food collects where the bridge meets the gum. If you have an implant-retained denture, take it out each night and brush both the denture and the attachments on the implants. Just as important, see our hygienist at least twice a year. Gum infection around implants, called peri-implantitis, is one of the main reasons implants fail long term, and it’s far easier to manage when caught early.

  7. How long do dental implants last, and is there a guarantee?

With good care, implants can last for decades. The teeth attached to them wear more like natural teeth and may need repairs or replacement after many years of use. Every implant we place at Ropergate comes with a 5-year guarantee. The conditions are that you attend at least two hygiene appointments a year and follow the maintenance plan we give you.
