Get set for a whiter smile

Before you have teeth whitening treatment with us in Pontefract, we recommend air polishing – which cleans plaque and stains away from teeth with a combination of water, air and fine powder – to add sparkle and boost results. The process is pain-free and helps bring back the natural colour of your smile.

4 steps to a whiter smile in Pontefract

Step 1 – assessment. First, your dentist or hygienist at our dental practice in Pontefract will check your suitability and any issues you may have, which can help us put together your tailored treatment plan.

Step 2 – trays. Next, we’ll create your bespoke whitening trays, which fit your teeth snugly to ensure you get the best possible whitening results.

Step 3 – treatment. We’ll check the fit of your trays and guide you through the teeth whitening process, which you’ll carry out at home. For those making the most of their tooth whitening experience, we’ll also carry out air polishing.

Step 4 – results. In just 2 weeks, you’ll have your dream smile – and brighter, whiter teeth.

Frequently asked questions

About teeth whitening at Ropergate Dental Care & Implant Studio

  1. How does teeth whitening work at Ropergate?

It’s a home whitening system, supervised by our dental team, in four steps:

    • We check your teeth and gums to make sure whitening is safe for you.
    • We take scans or impressions to make trays that fit your teeth exactly.
    • We show you how to apply the gel and wear the trays at home.
    • You follow the programme for around 2 weeks.

The gel breaks down stain molecules inside the enamel, so the colour of the tooth itself gets lighter. It doesn’t just clean the surface.

  2. How much does teeth whitening cost at Ropergate Dental Care?

At Ropergate, White Beauty whitening costs £440 and Enlighten costs £770. Both include your custom trays and whitening gel.

  3. Who can have teeth whitening?

Most adults with healthy teeth and gums. We’ll hold off if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. We’ll also treat any decay or gum disease first, because whitening over untreated problems can make them worse and cause discomfort. Whitening isn’t available to under-18s: UK law doesn’t allow professional-strength whitening gel to be used on anyone under 18, except to treat or prevent disease.

  4. Is teeth whitening safe?

When it’s prescribed and supervised by a dentist, yes. The main side effect is temporary sensitivity, which settles once treatment finishes. The risks come from whitening without a check-up first. That means gel seeping onto gums from badly fitting trays, whitening over cracks or decay, or using products that are stronger than the law allows. Your custom trays keep the gel on your teeth and off your gums.

  5. How long do whitening results last?

Up to around 2 years*, depending on your habits. Tea, coffee, red wine, curry and smoking all bring staining back sooner. Keep your trays, because an occasional top-up at home with fresh gel keeps your shade where you want it. Regular hygiene appointments help too.

  6. Can I whiten my teeth after Invisalign or braces?

Yes. Whitening makes a great finishing touch once your teeth are straight. If you’ve had Invisalign, your clear aligners can’t be used as whitening trays, so we’ll make dedicated trays. For adult patients, we can often plan whitening into the end of your aligner treatment so everything finishes together.

  7. Will whitening change the colour of my crowns, veneers or fillings?

No. Whitening only works on natural enamel, so crowns, veneers, bonding and white fillings stay the same shade. If you have any of these on your front teeth, we’ll check whether they’ll match once your natural teeth are lighter. If you’re planning new crowns or veneers anyway, whiten first. That way the new work can be colour-matched to your brighter smile.

  8. I have an upcoming event. When should I whiten my teeth?

Book your assessment at least 4 weeks before the date. That gives time for your trays to be made, 2 weeks of whitening, and a few days for any sensitivity to settle. If you’re also having air polishing or a hygiene visit, fit that in first, so the whitening gel works on clean teeth.
