About our revolutionary Invisalign clear brace treatment

  1. How does Invisalign work?

    Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of clear, removable aligners, each made for your mouth. It starts with a 3D iTero scan of your teeth, so there are no messy impressions. We use it to plan every movement in ClinCheck software, and you see a simulation of your finished smile before you commit. Each aligner moves your teeth a fraction of a millimetre. You swap to the next set at home, usually every week or two, until your teeth reach their planned position.

  2. What can Invisalign fix?

    Invisalign treats crowded teeth, gaps, teeth that have shifted since childhood braces, and many overbites, underbites and crossbites. It suits most mild to moderate cases. Some complex bite problems, or teeth that need to move a long way, respond better to fixed braces. If that applies to you, we’ll say so at your consultation and talk you through our fixed brace options.

  3. How long does Invisalign take?

    Most of our adult patients finish in 6 to 12 months. Minor straightening of the front teeth can take just a few months. More complex cases can take longer. Your ClinCheck plan shows exactly how many aligners you’ll need, so you’ll know your expected finish date before you start. How well you wear your aligners is the biggest factor in staying on schedule.

  4. How many hours a day do I need to wear my aligners?

    Between 20 and 22 hours a day. In practice, you take them out only to eat, drink anything other than plain water, and brush your teeth. Teeth only move while the aligners are in, so leaving them out for long stretches slows treatment down. It can also mean your next aligner doesn’t fit properly.

  5. How often do I change aligners and come in for appointments?

    You change to a new set of aligners at home, usually every 7 to 14 days depending on your plan. You’ll come to see us every 6 to 10 weeks, so we can check your teeth are moving as planned and hand over your next batch of aligners. Most check-ups are short.

  6. Does Invisalign hurt?

    It’s more pressure than pain. Your teeth will feel tight and a bit tender for the first day or two of each new aligner. That’s a sign they’re moving. Putting a new set in before bed means you sleep through most of it. The first week is usually the most noticeable. Over-the-counter painkillers help if you need them.

  7. How do I clean my aligners?

    Brush them gently morning and night with a soft toothbrush and cool or lukewarm water, and use the cleaning tablets we give you [confirm]. Never use hot water, as it can warp the plastic. Keep them in their case whenever they’re out of your mouth. Most lost aligners end up wrapped in a napkin and thrown away.
